STAR & test-only
STAR & test-only
Are you a STAR station?
Yes — we’re STAR certified, so we can smog DMV-directed vehicles as well as standard renewals.
What is a test-only station?
A station licensed to inspect and certify but not to perform repairs. With nothing to sell you, our only job is an honest test.
How do I know if I need a STAR station?
Your DMV renewal notice will say a STAR station is required. If it does, bring it here.
Why was my car sent to a STAR station?
The DMV directs a portion of vehicles to STAR stations for added oversight. It isn’t a sign of a problem.
Clean Truck Check
Clean Truck Check
What is Clean Truck Check?
A CARB program requiring periodic emissions compliance testing for most heavy-duty vehicles operating in California.
Which vehicles need it?
Most non-gasoline vehicles over 14,000 lbs GVWR. Call us and we’ll confirm whether yours qualifies.
Do you test fleets?
Yes — single trucks and fleets are both welcome. Call to arrange multiple vehicles.
Is it the same as a car smog check?
No — it’s a separate CARB compliance program for heavy-duty vehicles, distinct from the DMV smog check.
If your vehicle fails
If your vehicle fails
What if my vehicle fails the smog check?
As a test-only station we can’t make repairs, but we’ll explain why it failed and what to do next, then retest it once it’s fixed.
My check engine light is on — will it fail?
Yes, an illuminated check engine light is an automatic fail on OBD-II vehicles. Have it looked at before you come in.
Can you certify a gross polluter?
Yes — bring it in and our team will guide you on certification.
Is there help paying for repairs?
California’s Consumer Assistance Program may help eligible drivers. Ask us or check the BAR website for details.
